To Cut, or Not to Cut...

Ever since I got married, I have been contemplating doing this but I think I have finally decided that I really do want to do it. I want to (actually, I want someone else to) cut my wedding dress. I want someone to cut it up and make a BEAUTIFUL baby blessing dress and vest/tie set for my future babies. I am a little bit nervous about it because it is my wedding dress, but it has just sat in my closet for two years. If I am going to do it, I want to do it now before I have any kids because I want it to be something they are all blessed in (hopefully they fit in it right?!?). I think it would be really neat for them to be blessed in something that was worn when Rob and I were sealed together for Time and all Eternity in the Temple! =). Anyway, this is something that I really want to do and think would be really special for my future kids, but I have no idea where to go. I have tried to do a little research online, but didn't find much. Does anyone know of someone that has done this before? Or anyone that is REALLY REALLY REALLY good at sewing? There is only one dress so it has to be good the first time. I think I might ask for this for Christmas or use my Christmas money, so I have time to investigate, but I want to make it good! IF in the end I chicken out, which I really hope I don't, then I want to at least get my dress sealed up in a box before it turns yellow. Has anyone done this? Do you recommend it? For now I am sticking with cutting the dress though! =)

I think that's a great idea. I had my dress sealed and that's where it has been for 9 years. But it isn't yellow! And really what am I going to do with it? I doubt my girls would want to wear it when they get married... outdated, wrong size. I wish you would have shared your idea sooner!

Let me know if you do find anyone and the price involved because I want to do the same thing.

Go for it...I think it is such a great idea. My dress is actually still hanging in my closet probably very yellow. I have used a few times for primary and young women stuff, but nothing so important that I would been heartbroken if it hadn't been available. I wish I had thought of it...maybe my next two kids...would the first two hate me?

That's a very great idea! I just got rid of my dress after we celebrated our 4th anniversary because it was taking up space. Good luck with your search!!

We can do it together! I have totally been planning on doing this for as long as I can remember. I think it is a wonderful idea!!! I was thinking about maybe using the lady up in Mesa that altered our wedding dresses.

I think you should do it. In fact, that's given me a great idea. I missed it when Kayla was born for her blessing dress, but there's going to be a baptism here in about 7 months....think that's enough time to get a baptism dress made? I'll have to look into it. My vote again is for you to cut it :)

LOVE this idea! My mom had my dressed sealed up in a box where it sat for the last TWELVE years. Seemed like a waste to me. It just sat on a shelf in their garage. So just this summer I actually got it from her house and brought it home to mine where it sits in my closet gathering dust. :)
